CUN Movie review

I’ve been watching a lot of Malay movies lately. Some director has improved, some are still in their slumber world.

One of the best movie so far this year is a movie by Osman Ali called CUN. Hero of the film was Remy Ishak and the heroin is Maya Karin. Below is the synopsis of the movie:

Luna Latisya is a popular reality TV host for a show called “Meletups” who runs away after finding out that her boyfriend is cheating on her. Feeling heartbroken, Luna and her assistant Tom set off to a rural village in Kedah where she meets Atan, a handsome and kind villager. During her stay in the village, Luna starts to fall in love with the serene and peaceful lifestyle as well as gaining the approval of Atan’s family. However, a complication that happened in the city forces Luna to choose between the village life or return to her fabulous lifestyle back in the city.

I could say this movie is really entertaining, funny, simple, do not make me feel bore, straight to the point, realistic and did show the value of “Kampung life”. It’s really fun actually. It’s very hard for Malaysian movie to produce such film since P.Ramlee.

The line of actors are great, all can act very well including Maya Karin (she’s so stiff normally). Remy Ishak has proved he can be perfect “Hero Kampung”. He really nailed it. I like his character.

This movie use Kedah accent  (loghat Kedah) and all of them can portray it excellently. It’s not so easy though for those who are not native from Kedah to act the accent fluently.

Si Kembang with red cheek

The Kampung life and the family ties in this film is the strongest value that they bring in this movie not to forget the bond between human and the Buffalo (Si Kembang) too hehe. Si Kembang is really a great anim-actor .

Overall, this movie is predictable but you will definitely enjoy the funny simple everyday scripts that normal people use (not a schema scripts).

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa

 

When will I feel proud for Malaysian movie? I don't know when, but I have to say that I'm a bit proud of this movie Hikayat merong Mahawangsa directed by Yusry KRU base on a legend of Merong Mahawangsa.

 

It wasn't that good, not that bad, it's just OK. There are still lots of flaws in this movie, to be fair I will give Yusry 2 thumbs up for trying. At least we have KRU to bring in higher technology for Malaysian film industry and they do have high ambitions.

 

For me, the casting for main character was a bit sad. The characters and persons in this film that make me stay watching this film till the end was Merong himself acted by Stephen Rahman Hughes as well as Embok. Stephen act very well and he's the only person in this film whom I feel really serious with his character as well as Embok, a new comer in Malaysia film industry.

 

The bad acting was the Chinese Princess (Jing Lusi). She doesn't bring the princess-ness character to this movie and too stiff (I prefer Umi Aida to take her role), I think her maid Ying Ying act far better than her. Marcus, the prince of ROM is totally out. He doesn't have the Roman Prince character but he can fight very well. Another downturn for this movie casting was the Chinese admiral. He's as stiff as the princess.

 

Apart from that, I think the scripts was a bit "rojak". Watching this movie will make you confuse on what era their language is base on. I love the narrator script as it is the Malays classic language. If the script writer focus more on the classic language to all the characters it would be way better.

 

The fighting scene has improved. I love it. The only problem was KRU should higher more extras to show that Merong was a king to a group of army, not a group of kinder garden students. It makes the scene empty and very sad especially when they are on the way to attack Garuda. I don't feel that Merong was a great King at all.

Those unbelievers or anti Malay movie, I suggest you guys to just watch this film it's worth it. Credits to KRU effort :)

I Am Number 4

This film is base on science fiction novel by Pittacus Lore (a pseudonym for james Frey and Jobie Hughes who collaborated on this book). I haven't read the book and probably wont read it. Why I want to watch this movie in the first place? Because they did mention that No 1 is dead in Malaysia. Somehow they didnt show it in the movie. It's weird coz 2 movies I watched this month mentioned about Malaysia. Why suddenly? hehe.

Anyway, the starting (about first 5 mins) was pretty suspense, the beast horrified me a lot. It makes me eager to watch what's gonna happen. For the next hour, the story was a bit boring, it's about Number 4 (John Smith) trying to blend in with his new town, new school and new friends.. not to forget new girl - seems so predictable. It makes me forgot that this movie is about battle between aliens.. it does make me sleepy.

After a while, John finally discovered his new ability - torch light hand! haha. From this moment, he learned how to control his power and understand what was his purpose and why those Mogadorians trying to kill him.

Due to his stubbornness, the Mogadorians manage to tracked him and his guardian was killed by them. He realised that he must get revenge thus he plan to track the Mogadorians. However the Mogadorians manage to trapped him in the school.. This part is a bit stupid for me, cause instead of running away, he wants to follow his girl to school for -- I dont know why.

Ok, so the best part started finally. They were attacked by Mogadorians and their horrified beast. John received help from a girl who turns out to be No 6 and his own beast. The time his dog change to be a beast is really scary to me hahaha..

Then, the battle is on.. bang booom bang... they succeed. The short battle is really awesome to me thanks to those beast. So at the end I think it is quite interesting and i was hoping they will continue to the next chapter.

Last but not least Alex Pettyfer is HOT.

Rango

Rango is a melodramatic comedy animation to me. The plot is simple and predictable. It's about a lonely lizard who loves acting and confused of what he wants to be. He fell down from his owner truck and deserted at desert.

His first challenge was to survive! He was chase by an eagle and manage to escape with some luck, not so lucky for the frog though (If i can call it a frog, he doesnt look like a frog though). I love the eagle parts. They should add more plot for this eagle.

Rango moved on and met Beans the heroin in this movie. She's a tough girl and have a bit of short circuit in her brain (watch it n u'll know). She brought her to a small town call Dirt.

In order to blend in the Dirt town, he pretend to be the great killer of Jenkins family. He was lucky that he's stories about his greatness was proved by him accidentally killing the smart eagle, straight away he was appointed as the sheriff of Dirt town.

Rango was at the best of his life, being known and being a Sheriff in the town, what he didn't know is, the history of all their Sheriff and the problems the town face. His true journey starts there when he have to solve the Dirt town problems - To find the robbers who rob their last stocks of water.

Being a responsible Sheriff and again with lots of luck, he successfully solved the mystery of the water and caught the bad guy. He finally found who he was and what he meant to be and off course he found his new love.

Nahhh I'm not gonna spoiled the movie, u have to watch it to know who's the bad guy..

Rapunzel! Rapunzel!

"Rapunzel! Rapunzel, let down your hair, let me climb up and sniff at your hair.. Muahahah your mother knows the best".

Ohh I love this movie. Just watched it last nite. It was hilarious, I laughed like hell from the beginning till the end.

"Ohh.. u better focus on this old lady.. she's important in this movie. I told u so.. Eugine or Flynn rider as the narratives. This story is about the day i died. :P"

As you know it's another fairy tales from Hollywood but rather it's been distort to a new level of tales that is quite fascinating. The basic line is almost the same. It's about a princess that have a magical long hair. She's been kidnapped and locked in a tower in the middle of forest by an old lady who wants her magic to maintain her youth. One day his prince charming found the tower and climb in and BANG! he was knocked down by Rapunzel...

Surprise having a beautiful lady in front of her, he makes his cute handsome bitchy look. Look at that, look at that --> (don't say i'm crazy for falling in love with his look.. as long as cuteness is there i will easily falling hehe. )

Even when he's surprised! Charming huh?

So, they make a deal fair and square.. Rapunzel's adventure with his prince charming! Then.. u go and watch it yourself, it's no fun to tell all here hahaha, :P

What makes the movie more fun and funny? Of course the supporting animal! Maximus the stallion and caring Pascal the Iguana! This is my favourite part where Rapunzel trying to tame the furious maximus.

I'll give this movie 4 1/2 stars! Not that i bias with the cuteness in this movie, but because it's hilarious and fun! Those who have a teaspoon of sense of humor, better don't waste your money.

It's a fairy tale months. I'm loving it. Next week Narnia. I dont really like Narnia. But what the hell, it can distress my stress towards my job :p

Harry Potter fever is back

I was lucky i was born in this century. Where imaginations could turn into virtual and fulfill my desire to engage within the world of imaginations. It'll never enough to have your imaginations embedded and blurry in your head. Not until it was portray in what we call as film :p

Don't u love Hollywood for that? Oh Yes I am. So what the hell i'm talking about? Offcourse it's all about Harry Potter!

Harry Potter is 1 of my most favorites wizardry series ever made. The story line is awesome JK Rowling is an excellent writer. Who can ever imagine this books can made her billionaire? Another living creature that i envy. What makes it more marvelous? The awesome graphics and actors! Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are an outstanding actors. Love them all.

The past 10 years i've been feeding with terrific installment of fantasies movies, now we are about to end this wizardry films, one more to go. :(

Dinner for Schmucks

Yay! It feels like just a week ago that i'm in August. Hard to realize that it's already in the end of October. Another 2 months we gonna celebrate 2011. We are getting old in no time jeez.

So fella what has happened to you in the past 2 months?

Mine? Nothing change, my life is boring as always.. I can't make up my mind on some issues. My hormone is not stable. I almost delete this blogspot and abandoned it completely. I almost get killed in an accident. I postpone my master again. I hate my job and will quit if i found a new job. I'm becoming more uncertain then ever which makes my life a bit miserable.

However my life is not as miserable as this fella:

2 Thumbs up for DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS. It's damn funny. being around psychopath people will either make u smile or ur life even miserable.

Seriously, i recommend this movie, it's so hilarious and it gives a lot of good advice too.

I love rancho Chanchad/ Wungdu character in this film i wish i was like him haha.. unfortunately i'm all the above except i'm not the worst in my field :P
